Why Plan?
Long range community planning is a valuable undertaking for the Town in order to guide and prioritize where resources and efforts are needed now and into the near future. These resources include manpower, time, and finances, among other things, and is intended to be proactive in nature. This "30,000 foot" view highlights the resources and assets of Kendall, identifies key issues and concerns, highlights opportunities, establishes a vision and goals, and develops strategies to achieve that vision.
However, it's also valuable in that it brings the community-at-large to the table to provide direct input and direction through a dedicated process. That process hinges on feedback and input from YOU as well as other community stakeholders that know Kendall best!
The Town of Kendall's existing Comprehensive Plan was developed back in 1997... almost 30 years ago now. To say a lot has changed since then is a bit of an understatement! A new plan and vision for the future of the Town is an important step to guiding the community into the next 8 to 10 years. In undertaking this effort, Kendall is embarking on a two-plan process at the same time.
The primary project is an update to the Comprehensive Plan but also includes the development of an Agricultural & Farmland Protection Plan. While both are long range plans and have overlap in terms of process, each have their unique outcomes. The Comprehensive Plan, by its very nature, covers anything and everything in the Town and tends to be more general, whereas the Agricultural Plan is dedicated to the farming community, focused on the protection and promotion of agriculture.
Together, these two documents will help guide local leaders and the greater Kendall community. Since both are being done at the same time and will be integrated at the end, we've elected to just make it easier and refer to it as...
The Town of Kendall Comprehensive & Agricultural Plan!
